beyond garment launch...

The West Australian Maritime Museum was an unlikely meeting place for droves of fashionistas.  But, last night there they were, in all their finery to celebrate the launch of The Perth Fashion Festival’s inaugural Beyond Garment Exhibition.  The bubbly was flowing and as waiters effortlessly stirred the waters, the stylish populace picked at scrumptious canapés, and gossiped about the upcoming festival.

L was, as usual running extremely late. Events in the lead up to the exhibition included getting dressed in the car, getting stuck in traffic and falling down the stairs in her hurry. All ended well though with L and her photographer gliding into the packed museum right on 6:30! There was just enough time to grab a drink and stake out a good spot before the speeches started.

Sarah Pauly, the face of the festival and her fellow models opened the exhibition with a beautifully, dark decent down the museums master stairs. Wearing of course, magnificent, delicate creations by the exhibitions artisans.

The exhibition itself is a sight to see. Running from today the 3rd until the 28th of September this showcase of “fashionable” art from some of our most fresh and innovative designers is truly astounding. Bubbles of tule, massive textile sculptures and marshmallow chandeliers have been suspended from the cavernous ceiling.  Quirky, macabre doll part jewellery by Leah Tarlo has been arranged in whimsical cabinets filled with curiosities to keep you busy for hours.  Leather and bejewelled installations sit side by side, giving the space wonderful contrast.

For any fashion lover this exhibition is a must see, most definitely worth the trek out to Fremantle. L came out happy and light and inspired to create beautiful things.

Not only was the night filled with stunning conceptions but L managed to network a bit and meet fellow blogger’s Perth Fashionista and Girl Friday as well as meeting and totally gushing over Zoe Trotman of Lonely 8 Bit Heroes and her beautiful dress straight off styleAID’s runway! Stunning!

L is more than ready for Popsicle now! The launch is on Wednesday and L can’t wait to get her hands on some Lonely 8 Bit Heroes, Little Gracie and other wonderful new pieces from up and coming Perth designers. Popsicle will be open to the public from 9th of September, get down before the 13th for limited edition fashion from Lonely 8 Bit Heores, Little Gracie, Kiss Me Quick, PeppermintMilk, Heart City Design, Bad Hair Mountain, White Square, Lovers & Dreamers, Leah Tarlo, Prufrock, Love is My Velocity, Ping Pong Diplomacy and more!
